On October 3, from 10-12noon, Endeavour member Elisa Beecham is coming to The Phive to give us a historic journey about quiltmaking and no – women did not start this. Professional quilting was actually a man’s role (check out Joe Cunningham’s fantastic and intriguing book Men and the Art of Quiltmaking). Please contact Ann at anntoddu3a@gmail.com to let her know you will be there.

On October 18, Keith Austin is leading us on a journey through the life of Shakespeare at the State Library. The meetup will be 11:00am. He has planned a speaker as well as a walk through some very interesting highlights as we celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio.  Contact Keith on panaust@tpg.com.au so he can let you know where to meet and where we will enjoy lunch together afterward.

As well we have something else very special… NSW Department of Customer Service ID Support is ready to help you ensure your online ID is safe, secure and strong at our wonderful The Phive on Tuesday October 31 10-12noon. Contact Ann anntoddu3a@gmail.com to let her know you will be there.

* Single Session Tuesdays on Zoom continues at The Phive every second Tuesday commencing July 11. Contact  Lorraine Michalk at Imichalk@optusnet.com.au or Ann Todd at anntoddu3a@gmail.com for any questions or to book.

*Semester 2 Course Book is published! Click on  Events to see the upcoming Griffith Tour in March 2024  and the 17th Literary Festival in February 2024, both sponsored by u3a GW.

* 17th Literary Festival is ready to go. Check Events above. Theme is Australian Literature – those fantastic stories (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, drama/ theatre and even artworks) tell wonderful stories about this amazing country. Gives us a sense of our identity: Aboriginal narratives to colonial stories; 20th Century writers to today’s storytellers – witty, satiric, and allusive. We are excited. So many of our authors/dramaturges, poets and artists have won nationwide prizes for their works and this Festival at Katoomba will be quite a celebration. We are one – we are Australians!

*Click here to review the images and stories from the wonderful Ballina Tour completed in May 2023.

16th Literary Festival in mid-February was terrific. My Story was the theme and we listened with rapture to the stories in books published by some of our members as well as biographies across topics. An absolutely fabulous three days – keep your eye on the advertisement coming soon for the 17th Literary Festival next February.

* The Sydney u3a GW AGM and 30th anniversary is OVER and the day was social, fun and yummy. Check out the Committee page to see who is on the committee. Want to help. Email someone on the committee.

* Sydney u3a Greater West Committee has been giving talks at Probus Clubs to promote our u3a GW region.  Would you like someone to talk at a Probus Club nearby to help promote our region and boost our membership?  Higher the membership the more diverse range of courses we can put together. Think about it.
