Upper North AGM 2018
The Annual General Meeting of the Upper North Region was held on Monday 11 November at Turramurra Uniting Church. President, Grahame Marr, opened the meeting and welcomed the over 60 members who attended to what was to be a very enjoyable and lively AGM.
The President reported on the year’s activities and thanked the outgoing committee for all their work throughout 2018. A big thank you was extended to Course Co-ordinators, Venue Co-ordinators, Leaders and Presenters.
Grahame introduced Sydney U3A President, Barbara Boston, who gave a short summary of U3A’s activities in 2018. She also announced the nomination of Ebba van Helder as a life member.
She then handed over the microphone to Di Ekert, Sydney VP Education, who spoke enthusiastically about the latest news from the Education section of U3A.
Upper North Treasurer, Jane Cooper, reported on the region’s healthy financial position.
It was then the turn of Margot Taverne to perform her role as returning officer. The following people were nominated and duly elected as the new Upper North committee:

Barbara Sabel, Statistician;
Sue Shaw, Publicity officer, newsletter and web editor;
Pauline Holbrook, Course co-ordinator;
Graeme Marshall, Equipment and assets officer;
Roslyn Markham, Committee member and venue co-ordinator;
Alan Barge, Committee member and past president;
Marjorie Perry, Venue Coordinator and assistant course book coordinator;
Vicki Davies, Venue convenor (new committee member);
Robyn Conliffe (new committee member).
Phil Pryor gave a short summary of the new course he will run next semester on Literary Figures.
It was then the turn of the guest speaker Professor Descoeudres to present a talk on the archaeology of Pompeii. This is an introduction to the course he will be presenting next semester.
After the presentation a delicious afternoon tea was served.
